The mountain consists of the peaks Nordre S\u00e6tretind and S\u00f8re S\u00e6tretind. You can set off in the afternoon after work, or make it a \u2018tur\u2019 with an overnight stay \u2013 as Anders did here. This is a classic Sunnm\u00f8re hike, considered demanding.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nS\u00e6tretinden has become a popular hike in recent years \u2013 but that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s an easy ascent. The last few meters to the peak, especially, are considered difficult. There\u2019s the risk of avalanche, particularly at the entrance to Kvanndalen, under Kol\u00e5sbreen, in Insterenna, and during the descent towards Flatdalen. This opening leads into Kvanndalen. Follow Kvanndalen up to the \u201cAppelsinhaugen\u201d. From here, you can see north to Insterenna \u2013 a chute you ascend with crampons, skis on your back. After Insterenna, follow the ridge to the south-east, towards Nordre S\u00e6tretind.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you want to bag the peak, the last 50 meters are best done with crampons and an ice axe \u2013 leave your skis and come back for them.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ruta-ned\">The descent:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDescending, there\u2019s a super nice line from the peak straight towards Flatdalen, bearing east. There\u2019s also a construction road providing good transport from the power plant down to Standalsdalen.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"alternative-nedkjoringer\">Alternative descents:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThere are several relatively steep lines running down from the massif and S\u00e6tretinden. All of these go down into Kvanndalen, so you can follow the same path back up into Kvanndalen. These are only lines for stable snow conditions, though \u2013 and you should know what you\u2019re doing.\r\n\r\nYou can also go down the way you came up, via Innsterenna.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sno-sesong-og-vaerforhold\">Snow, season and weather conditions:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Sunnm\u00f8re Alps face the sea to the north-west. Clouds, precipitation and wind from the north-west generate a lot of snow. Snow and rain in a single day aren\u2019t unheard of at altitude. But the area is also exposed to a coastal climate and mild weather.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs in large parts of coastal Norway, this all means that wind, rain, temperature and snow conditions vary a lot from day to day. So do the preparatory work by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.varsom.no\/\">checking avalanche warnings<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asnes-academy.com\/en\/planning-your-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plan properly<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asnes.com\/asnes-academy\/planlegging-av-tur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asnes-academy.com\/en\/mountain-and-safety\/seven-tips-to-find-a-safe-route-up-the-mountain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exercise judgement en route<\/a> and keep your knowledge and skills up to date.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe season varies, but usually begins with the first snowfall in October and normally ends in May.
