You attach a strip of material to the soles of your skis. Now you can ski uphill.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">All skins are faced with adhesive. All skins attach to the ski with some kind of fastening at the front. Longer skins may have a rear attachment, too. If you\u2019re touring for turns, you peel the skin off when you get somewhere suitably high, fold it in half, stick it in your rucksack and point yourself downhill. Whee.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">There are several factors to be aware of when choosing the right skin \u2013 material, width and length are the most important. And it\u2019s also important to understand how to cut and trim the skin so it\u2019s adapted perfectly to the width and length of your skis. It helps to know the best way to attach your skins, too.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Most of us expend a lot of thought on sexier considerations such as skis, bindings and boots. We\u2019d like to make the case here that skins are equally as sexy!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"skifellen-din-beste-venn-pa-topptur\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Skins \u2013 the alpine tourer\u2019s best friend<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Skins are the crucial contact surface between you and the snow for most of the time you spend on the mountain. Roughly 70\u201390% of the time we spend on skis, from car to summit to car, is spent with skins on!\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you\u2019re a cyclist, your first ride of the spring is probably on a beautifully lubed, gleaming machine with tyres to race pressure and brakes tensioned to a mm clearance. It\u2019s curious, and noticeable, that many of us don\u2019t seem to be so invested in taking care of our skins, though. The true value of skins seems to be somewhat under-communicated. Some of use take a couple of pairs. If conditions make waxing difficult, a skin can save the day. If you\u2019re pulling a load, the hill is steep, or you simply need grip, stick on a short skin. Som standard b\u00f8r det f\u00f8lge med minst et par kortfell til alle \u00c5snes fjellski. Kortfell er overlegent ved at de krever lite vedlikehold. Ved bruk av kortfell f\u00e5r man solid feste under skien, uansett forhold. Samtidig ivaretar man mye av gliden fordi kortfellen ligger i festesonen p\u00e5 skien. Kortfell utmerker seg spesielt i dyp sn\u00f8, om man skal trekke pulk eller vil ha garantert feste uansett forhold. Noen velger ogs\u00e5 \u00e5 feste dem permanent under skien, spesielt p\u00e5 ekspedisjoner. Den kan ogs\u00e5 gi trygghet til dem som vil bremse litt mer i nedkj\u00f8ring. Kortfell fra \u00c5snes har etterhvert blitt standarden for alle \u00e5 leve opp til. V\u00e5re feller lages av Colltex og Pomoca, de st\u00f8rste og flinkeste p\u00e5 feller i verden. Vi har ogs\u00e5 ulike kvaliteter, som spenner seg fra solid Nylon til Mohair og Race-kvalitet. V\u00e5re inserts og v\u00e5r fellel\u00e5s er kvalitetssikret gjennom \u00e5revis med hardt bruk og testing. Den iser ikke og er den tryggeste og beste l\u00f8sningen p\u00e5 markedet. Dette er unikt for disse skiene. V\u00e5re tilkomstfeller er rett og slett laget som kortfeller for toppturski. De egner seg til \u00e5 g\u00e5 lange innmarsjer hvor man vil ha god glid, til korte toppturer fra skiheisen eller som et lettere og kompakt alternativ til en vanlig langfell. Tilkomstfellen tar veldig liten plass, og passer i innerlomma. Derfor er det ingen unnskyldning for \u00e5 ikke ta dem med n\u00e5r kj\u00f8rer i skianlegg. The skin\u2019s material<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Once upon a time, skins were made of sealskin. Hence the name.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Today, skins are made of synthetic fibres, mohair (hair from Angora goats), or a mixture of the two. The differences in the material play an important role in terms of friction (glide), grip, durability, and price.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">The plush material gives a skin different degrees of grip and glide. These properties vary depending on the material used (nylon, blend or mohair) and how the fibres are woven (thicker or thinner, longer or shorter, more angled or less). As a general rule, skins that glide well have a slightly weaker grip, and vice versa.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-column uagb-column__wrap uagb-column__background-undefined uagb-block-74074e6d\">\r\n<div class=\"uagb-column__overlay\"><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"uagb-column__inner-wrap\">\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 id=\"syntetiske-feller-nylon\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Synthetic skins (nylon)<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Synthetic skins are usually made of nylon. Nylon is very durable and provides superb traction, but it doesn\u2019t glide as well as mohair. Its main advantage is its superb grip in all snow conditions; it\u2019s good on wet snow, which permits it to glide a little a bitter. For when you need durability or optimal grip (pulling loads up steep hills, for example).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Life: approx 150.000 m<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 id=\"mohair\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Mohair<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Mohair skins provide a good mix of grip and glide at a light weight. They\u2019re less robust and more expensive than nylon, however. For when the skier prioritises glide (although they\u2019ll always provide better grip than grip wax). If you ski regularly, or you\u2019re intending to make longer tours, it\u2019s worth while buying a skin to emphasise glide. Width<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMost skins are sold in 5mm increments from 80 to 145mm in width. Wider skins will, of course, cover more of the ski\u2019s sole, giving better grip; the contrary applies to narrower skins. The best solution for cross-country skiers in the backcountry using short skins is usually to take one or two different ones. Wider skins are more expensive, so you pay more for that cover and the grip it affords when your skinning up to the summit.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 id=\"lavere-vekt-og-bedre-glid\" class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Lower weight and better glide<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Some prioritise weight and good glide. For them, the solution is narrower skins. For alpine touring skiers concerned about weight, the volume of their backpack and better glide, we\u2019d advise choosing a skin that fits inside the waist without covering the steel edge.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">If your ski measurements are, for example, 121\/95\/109mm, choose 90mm-wide skins. Sizing skins based on the waist sacrifices some grip; unable to march straight up a high angle slope, it might pay to practice techniques such as kick turns and to factor in time spent traversing. If your skis are 185 cm long, you\u2019ll l want to buy the 180-190 cm length and fine tune the length with the adjustable mounts. You usually have about 10 to 15 cm to play with this way.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #7a7a7a;\">Some skins are also sold in a length of about 200 cm. If you buy one of these, you\u2019ll have to trim it to the length you want yourself; you may have to clip in the tip hardware yourself. You can probably fine tune the length with adjusters.
